Bike Course: Bikers need to keep your heads up and obey all city traffic codes and Highway Patrol Officer Commands. All racers need to be aware that the race course is not closed to vehicle traffic. We urge you all to be safe and stay to the right side of the road at all times. Course is marked with cones, chalk, police officers and volunteers. This course has rolling hills and is very scenic. Bikers pass by reservoirs, wineries and rural ranch-style properties. There is a steep hill climb of approximately 1/2 mile in length near mile 11. At the corner of Sycamore Ave. and Watsonville Road a mandatory slow down will be strictly enforced.
Drafting: Drafting is illegal at the South Bay Triathlon IX. The race is totally Sold Out, and we ask your help in doing the best we can to help enforce the no drafting rules of Tri-Fed. You the athlete is the simplest and best way to keep the bike course safe & draft free. We will have monitors and Tri-Fed officials out on the bike course, but you personally need to help the sport and yourself by simply backing out of packs, slowing down, or verbally mentioning to other athletes not to draft. It really is that easy.
Run: Participants run along the road out and back 2.5 miles, for a total of 5.0 miles. Courses are lined heavily with cones and chalk. History has brought hot weather, bring a hat and sunscreen. There will be water stations every mile dispensing large 8 oz cups of water.
Post Race Massage: The Sports massage services PERFORMANCE PLUS will provide massages for a nominal fee of $10/10 minutes, $20/20 minutes ($1/minute).
