Swim Course: The 1.25K Swim will start in waves. The swim course is a loop course hugging the island. Water surface temperature is about 68-70 degrees. Wetsuits are allowed. The swim course will be lined with large neon buoys, numerous lifeguards, kayak teams, San Jose Search and Rescue as well as Lake Almaden Rangers. The finish is on a beautiful, sandy beach.
Bike Course: The SJIT is one of the fastest, best monitored bike courses available in Triathlons.
The 40K loop course is flat, fast and well paved. The average course speed for males in 2000 was 21 mph and the females averaged 17-20 mph.
The course is wide and very safe with over 80 San Jose Police Officers on the course as well as volunteers. This enables athletes to let it fly!
Approximately halfway through the course, participants encounter a mile long hill.
Bailey Avenue is where athletes will start to feel the effects of hammering the flats.
Bailey Avenue is a steep grade, and J&A Productions closes Bailey for racers only, on the upward section ONLY.
This part of the course can be a strategic point where competitors can make or break their day.
Upon returning to Almaden Lake Park, atheletes will continue their race with a lightening fast 10K run.

Run Course: The 10K run exits out the front of the transition area. The run will start on the newly paved trail which circles the lake. Athletes will go underneath Coleman Ave and run on well-groomed fire trails which circles the percolation ponds. All competitors will be able to see their competition, the leaders, and followers during the run. Like previous years' run portion, athletes will run down the trail, but only for one mile. Racers will obviously turn around again, and once headed home will cross the grand finish line. The finish will be in the middle of the entire sports and sponsor Expo. The run is totally flat & very, very, fast. Hundreds of spectators will be on hand to watch the exciting finish.
All racers will finish at one of the BEST PARTIES AROUND. Upon recovering, athletes will want to hang around as the festivities will just be getting underway. All participants will have the opportunity to eat free catered food. Drinks will include bottled water and Bud Light beer. Race day announcers will keep all who attend informed of all the post race festivities. A live headline band and or DJ will play rocking tunes throughout the day on the main stage.
The Awards ceremony will begin at approx. 12:00 p.m.. All who attend will not only have fun, but will be able to hear interviews and feedback from all who participated.
